Dear Editor,
With respect to accusations carried in the April 4 edition of the Guyana Times, I will confess that I have hit my workers in the past…with bouncers on the cricket field, during the matches that staff and customers in our small community regularly play together.
I will confess that I have seen our managers campaign to change their employees minds…to eat healthier and stop drinking and other destructive behaviours.
I confess that I have seen supervisors give employees time off to attend gatherings we support…such their children’s PTA meetings.
But we at Imam Bacchus & Sons have never threatened or bribed anyone to support any political view. Our employees are a diverse mix of ages, genders, races, religions and political affiliations and we enjoy it that way. This company encourages independence of conscience in all things and at the end of the day we all sit down around the same pot as friends and family, in companionship and peace.
In this small community where anybody knows everybody’s business, the truth of Imam Bacchus’s fairness lives within our community. Our staff and the people they serve are literally neighbours and family. The labourers, supervisors, managers and customers all sat together in the same school benches as children. Political coercion just isn’t possible in this environment.
In this election season, we at Imam Bacchus extend to the country the same message we have always given to our employees and customers. Speak as you see fit. Stand as you see fit. Vote as you see fit. We will continue to welcome you to sit around our pot and share our hospitality.
