The Guyana Beverage Company Incorporated’s inaugural Busta soft-shoe football tourney continued to gather steam as Star Party Rentals became the latest sponsor to come on abroad, donating an undisclosed amount in equipment and services for the tourney.
The Craig Street entity in Campbellville during a simple handing over ceremony yesterday, committed to providing the guard rails, mobile lighting towers and seating accommodation for the championships.
Coordinator of the event, Troy Mendonca, of the Petra Organization, during a brief comment, expressed sincere gratitude to the establishment and its proprietor Lennox Cush for the timely contribution.
He noted that the company has always supported ventures undertaken by the Petra organization regardless of the age group.
“What they are providing is a key component to the success of the tournament and we are grateful for it at this critical juncture,” said Mendonca.
The tourney, which commences tomorrow at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, will be contested in an initial group format featuring 24 teams being divided into six groups of four.
Participating in the event are North East La Penitence, North Ruimveldt, West Back Road, Sophia, Queen Street Tiger Bay, Holmes Street Tiger Bay, Albouystown, Tucville, Globe Yard, Leopold Street, Cross Street, Kitty, Bent Street, Durban Street, Sparta Boss, Charlestown, Broad Street, California Square, Back Circle, Brazilian Team, Stevedore Housing Scheme, Festival City, Alexander Village and West Front Road-Gold is Money.
Winners of the event will receive $600,000 and the championship trophy while the second placed unit will pocket $300,000 and the runners-up title. The third and fourth positioned teams will walk away with $200,000 and $100,000 respectively.
