A taxi driver, who allegedly used his vehicle to commit a knife-point hold-up, was remanded to prison last Thursday after being charged with armed robbery.
Jose King pleaded not guilty to the charge that on March 15, 2015, along with another, he robbed Isaac Da Silva of a $100,000 cellphone.
The prosecution stated that Da Silva was walking along High and Barrack streets, Kingston, around 9:30PM, when King, armed with a knife, and an unknown person robbed him of his cellphone. The two men escaped in a vehicle with the number plate HB 6168, the prosecution added, while noting that the car was subsequently stopped after a report of the attack was made. The driver, King, was searched and the phone was allegedly found on him.
Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, who presided over the arraignment, denied King bail. His next court date is April 24, 2015.
