The National Insurance Scheme (NIS) will soon be introducing its ultra-modern Online Contribution Checking System that will allow contributors to easily access contribution updates via the Web.
According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) report, the system is a web interface which connects to an offline version of the database used by the NIS. “It was built on top of an existing and secure framework which powers thousands of sites on the web… and provides credentials and access to details regarding users’ contributions,” GINA said.
The NIS Board of Directors participated in a demonstration exercise on Wednesday at the Patrick Martinborough multi-purpose complex on Carifesta Avenue. General Manager Doreen Nelson said the exercise is only the start of the process to get the website up and running. Once the Board is satisfied with the controls and security, the website will immediately become accessible to the public.
Manager of Research and Information Systems at NIS Holly Greaves said anyone who wants to access his or her contributions online will be required to sign-up, after which that person will be given their individual password to access the account. NIS also plans to introduce a number of services that will allow contributors to verify their contributions and ensure there are no discrepancies.
The records will be available in a “read only” format that cannot be modified by the user.
