A man was on Wednesday charged with breaking and entering the business premises belonging to a man he claimed failed to fully pay him for a job he had done.
According to the facts presented by the prosecution, on April 6th, at around 10AM, Govindra Nirmal broke and entered the business place of Albert Ramkarran and stole a gauge, valued $60,000, 12 pairs of welding gloves, valued $30,000, and other articles. In total, the stolen items were valued at $241,000.
An uncertain Nirmal changed his plea several times and he could not give the magistrate a straight answer when asked whether he had removed the items.
Nirmal said, “Me nah trouble nothin. Is couple pair gloves and they get am back.”
He further stated, “I used to work for the man. He said he gon’ pay me $3,000 to clean de drain. But when me done he only gimme $1,000 an seh they in got no mo money.”
The prosecution objected to bail on the grounds that Nirmal was caught on camera removing the articles from the premises as well as taking into consideration the seriousness and prevalence of the offence.
Bail was subsequently refused and Nirmal is expected to make his next court appearance on April 13 before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at Georgetown Magistrates’ Court 1.
