Corwin Benjamin, one of two persons hospitalised in critical condition after an accident at Strathspey, East Coast Demerara, over a week ago, succumbed yesterday at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).
Benjamin, 22, of 194 Charlotte Street, Georgetown, died as a result of the head injuries he received in the accident, which occurred on April 2nd. Since his admission, Benjamin was a patient at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital, where he had been in an unconscious state.
At the time of the accident he was travelling with two other occupants in a vehicle that was being chased by police. Stephon Shepard and his girlfriend Sonia Mohamed were the other persons in the vehicle with Benjamin at the time of the accident.
A statement from the police afterward said that an unlicensed .32 Taurus pistol along with 11 rounds of matching ammunition was seized from the vehicle and Benjamin and Mohamed were placed under police guard while they were hospitalised in critical condition.
