At about 0800h. today, police say that the body of Roy Bovell, 36 years, of Tabatinga, Lethem, who was in custody at the Lethem Police Station, was found hanging from the grill work of the station lock-ups. A release said that the police had visited the lock-ups at 0615h. today where he was alive and well.
Bovell was the only prisoner in the lock-ups at the time and had been arrested at about 1945h. last night at Tabatinga after he was found in possession of 60 grams of cannabis sativa (marijuana).
The body is at the Lethem Hospital Mortuary.
The Police Office of Professional Responsibility is conducting investigations into the matter, the release said.
