National heavyweights Alpha United have recalled the services of Grenadian hitman Kithson Bain in their bid to qualify to the second round of the 2015 Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Championships.
Bain, who was part of Alpha United’s maiden 2013 CONCACAF Champions League campaign and successful CFU Club Championship, arrived on local shores on Friday. The stoutly-built forward has been capped at the senior level for his country 37 times while finding the back of the net on 17 occasions.
He has also had brief stints with the Carolina Railhawks and Caledonia AIA of the North American Soccer League and Trinidad and Tobago Pro league respectively.
The national heavyweights are the hosts of group-1 which consists of Trinidad and Tobago unit Central FC and Inter Moengotapoe of Suriname. The Suriname champions are to arrive tomorrow while the Trinidad and Tobago unit will arrive on Wednesday.
Alpha United are set to open their campaign at the National Stadium in Providence against the Surinamese unit on Wednesday. They will then faceoff with Central FC four days later at the same venue, with the top side from the group advancing to the next round.
Prior to the local side ending their group campaign, Inter Moengotapoe will also faceoff with the Central FC on Friday. Meanwhile, Alpha United will be joined by the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) as the country’s second representative in the event.
The GDF has been placed in group-2 which will feature Direct-TV W. Connection from Trinidad and Tobago, Spirited, Attitude and Performance (SAP) FC from Antigua and Barbuda and Waterhouse from Jamaica.
The preliminary round which will feature four groups, will be played simultaneously during the April 13th-20th period.
The final round of the event will be played from May 20th-25th in a knockout format to decide the overall winner. The top three teams during that section will earn places in the prestigious CONCACAF Champions League.
