Dear Editor,
The area surrounding the Georgetown Public Hospital continues to pose health problems for patients and visitors to that facility in addition to residents around the hospital. The drains in the area surrounding the country’s largest hospital are non-existent.
It is been close to a year since the last fogging, and the area continues to suffer from a mosquito infestation. Every call to the Vector Control Department has been met with the response that residents should take their own action, or that the department is ill-equipped at this time to deal with the problem. Last year the area was fogged twice, but it was still insufficient to deal with the infestation.
A private hospital, a food entity and a medical lab have taken it upon themselves to cover some of the drains, which they are helping to clog. This is not helpful, but since many of the people who operate these businesses don’t live in the area, I guess it is not their concern.
I am not writing only to bring attention to one small issue facing one small section of Georgetown; I suspect that the same situation exists in several other parts of the city. I am just writing to put on record one small piece of the lawlessness puzzle that is being encouraged to the detriment of citizens.
Yours faithfully,
