Clyde Barker, the truck driver accused of running over 12-year-old Ezekiel Murray along the Friendship Public Road, was yesterday released on $250,000 bail after denying a causing death by dangerous driving charge.
Barker, 32, of Lot 244 Second Street, Grove, pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court 1.
It is alleged that Barker, a driver for Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL), drove motor lorry GJJ 278 in a manner dangerous to the public, thereby causing the death of Murray on April 10, at Friendship.
The police’s case is that at about 6 pm, Murray was struck down as he was about to cross the Friendship Public Road.
Senior Superinten-dent Ian Amsterdam told Stabroek News yesterday that a post-mortem examination performed on the remains of Murray revealed that he died as a result of multiple injuries.
Attorney Sonia Parag made an application for bail to be granted, saying Barker was not a flight risk and had cooperated fully with the police.
Bail was granted with the condition that Barker report to the officer-in-charge of traffic department at the Grove Police Station every Friday at 5 pm. The case was adjourned until April 17.
