A 43-year-old Bachelors Adventure, East Coast Demerara man collapsed and died in front of the Georgetown Public Hospital on Thomas Street yesterday morning.
The man, who was identified as Delly Payne, was suffering from a terminal illness and was headed to the hospital for treatment when he collapsed on the walkway outside.
According to information reaching this newspaper, a security supervisor saw him lying on the walkway around 5.30 am and quickly alerted the hospital. However, by that time he was already dead. An x-ray result card was found near his body.
A relative said the Payne left his home early yesterday morning for the hospital. The relative said he was sick for a long time and recently his condition worsened. The relative added that an autopsy is expected to be performed on Wednesday to determine the cause of death.
Payne leaves to mourn his sister, mother and daughter.
