The twenty-year-old mother of one who went missing several weeks ago was found last week by the police in Bartica.
Samantha Alli called ‘Devika’ of Fisher Dam, Zeelugt, West Coast Demerara (WCD) was reported missing by family members on March 30 after she was beaten and then thrown out of the house she shared with her husband.
Carmen Matthews, aunt of the young girl related the good news to this newspaper on Tuesday last. The woman said Alli’s family members and friends are grateful that she has been found.
“I am so happy I found my niece and she’s safe because with all going on these days we were actually preparing after so much days to receive some bad news,” were the words of Matthews.
Reports reaching Stabroek News were that Alli related that after the beating, she left for the interior to work with the assistance of a friend’s mother. She stayed there for a while and then travelled to Bartica for the regatta and was spotted by police since her photos were aired on television and carried in the newspapers after a missing person’s report was filed.
It was after Alli was taken to the Bartica police station that her family members received a call informing them that she was found and they could come forward for her. She was later picked up and taken home to her family and three-year-old son.
The disappearance, relatives said, was a result of the abusive relationship she shared with her husband and also the constant threatening. The husband who was in police custody following Alli’s disappearance was subsequently freed.
