A 70-year-old Guyanese woman was last Saturday busted at the John F Kennedy Airport in New York with nearly two kilogrammes of cocaine strapped onto her underwear.
The woman, Olive Fowler arrived in the country aboard a Caribbean Airlines flight and was selected for inspection by Customs and Border Protection Officers.
According to court documents seen by this newspaper, the agents noticed Fowler “sweating profusely” and avoiding eye contact with them.
They then conducted a pat down of the pensioner and during that procedure felt a dense hard material in the areas of her groin and buttocks. “The CPB officers then conducted a partial body search discovering that the defendant was wearing two pairs of compression shorts over her underwear, that concealed a white powdery substance wrapped in transparent plastic,” the court document stated.
Fowler removed the substance and its packaging from her body and handed it to the CBP officers and the substance tested positive as cocaine. It weighed 1925.1 grams.
The elderly woman will make her next appearance on the 27th of this month before Judge Roanne L. Mann in a New York Eastern District Court.
