A Guyana Sugar Corporation Com-munications Officer was arraigned in a New York District Court for trafficking in 786.4 grams of cocaine in sneakers, last week.
Court documents seen by Stabroek News state that 29-year-old Thenga Adams knowingly, intentionally and unlawfully imported into the country, last Tuesday, the illicit substance.
He had arrived on a Caribbean Airlines flight from Guyana via Trinidad and Tobago.
The document stated that Adams was selected for a Customs and Border Protection examination and the drug was found concealed in four pairs of sneakers, divided two apiece, in his two suitcases.
He was then arrested and read his rights but agreed to speak with law enforcement without the presence of an attorney. There he confessed that he knew the sneakers contained the drug.
Adams was arraigned before Judge Lois Bloom and was represented by Mia Eisner-Grynberg.
