A Stewartville internet café employee was last evening killed by a speeding motorist as she and her six- year-old son stood waiting to cross the West Coast of Demerara Public Road.
Dead is 33-year-old Vanessa Forde of Lot 31 Stewartville Housing Scheme (WCD). Her only child, Zidaine Moore was saved and suffered only minor injuries as his mother pushed him out of danger’s way onto the nearby parapet.
“She was standing on the left hand side of the road, a driver speeding coming from Parika side to town slam into her pitching her into the gutter and then drove away when I asked him to help me take her to the hospital,” the woman’s father Desmond Forde told Stabroek News last night.
The distraught man said that it was a passing minibus that stopped and assisted him taking his daughter to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The driver was later found in another WCD village as he attempted to change his number plate, the woman’s father related.
Police have arrested him and he is in custody assisting with investigations.
