Enmore Cricket Club defeated Lusignan Cricket Club by six runs in the final of the Nauth Motor Spares sponsored 50-overs tournament at Enmore Community Center Ground on Sunday.
In a low scoring event, the hosts batted first to register 133 all out in 39 overs while the visitors replied with 127 all out in 32 overs. Witnessed by a fair sized and vocal crowd, which included Guyana Cricket Board President Drubahdur and other executives, Lusignan asked Enmore to take first strike on a very moist pitch.
The home boys were off to a good start, adding 50 in the first 10 overs as skipper Bheemraj Ramkelawan and under-19 player Vishwanath Ramlakan batted positively.
However, the dismissal of Ramkelawan, triggered a collapse as six wickets fell for 19 runs. After that slide, the hosts never recovered and were eventually bowled out in the 39th over after a vital last wicket partnership of 26 runs between Vice-captain Chaitram Ramlall and Nandram Ganesh. Adrian Persaud top scored for Enmore with 23 while F. Kadir took 5-32 runs from 10 overs and Narvan Singh 3-27 from seven overs for Lusignan.
In reply, Lusignan was restricted to 127 all out as Demerara U-19 fast bowler Gavin Moriah claimed three wickets and national leg spinner Amir Khan grabbed 2-8 from 10 economical overs.
The winners were rewarded with a trophy and two hundred thousand dollars whilst Lusignan took home the runners-up trophy and one hundred thousand dollars. Gavin Moriah of ECCCC was awarded the man of the match trophy, Somdat Bharrat the best batsman of the final, F. Kadir the best bowling performance in the final and Somdat Bharrat the MVP of the tournament with 333 runs.
Other notable performances taken into consideration for MVP were Vishwanth Ramlakan with 241 runs, B.Ramkelawan with 271 runs and Gavin Moriah with a tournament high 19 wickets.
