Essequibo recorded its first outright victory at the 2015 Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Inter-County Under-19 tournament, by defeating the National U-17 side by 109 runs one hour into the second session on day three.
The lads from the Cinderella County picked up the remaining eight wickets to complete a convincing victory early on the final day, yesterday at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground.
Resuming on an overnight position of 7-2, the U-17 side was reduced to 117-7 by lunch, with top scorer and skipper Ronaldo Ali-Mohamed (43) back in the pavilion. Like most of the other sessions in the match, Essequibo dominated the first period on day three by capturing five scalps, before closing things off midway through the second.
Timothy McCalmont and Bhaskar Yadram were the only batsmen who lent support to Ali-Mohamed, registering respective scores of 33 and 25. Bowling for Essequibp, Loaknauth Chinkoo and Keanu Harry snatched three wickets each while West Indies U-19 player Kemo Paul who was named man of the match, was responsible for two wickets.
It was the second successive outright defeat for the U-17 side.

National U-17s (147-Akini Adams 4-32 and Harry 3-26 and 147- Ali-Mohamed 43 and McCalmont 33 while Chinkoo and Harry snared three wickets each).
The competition continues tomorrow at the Enmore Community Development Centre with host Demerara tackling the National U-17 and leaders Berbice facing Essequibo at Everest.
