Banks DIH Limited is inviting residents of lower East Bank Demerara and its environs to a Community Outreach Fitness Walk and Mini Health Fair on Saturday from 7am.
Residents of Yarrowdam, Meadow Bank, Alexander Village and Ruimveldt are also being targeted, along with employees of the company, a press release said. Participants are asked to assemble at the traffic light junction of the Demerara Park Public Road for the fitness walk which will close at the same location. There will be blood pressure testing, dental check-ups, screenings for diabetes, a blood donation drive as well as counselling for HIV/AIDS.
Co-ordinator of the event, Coca-Cola Brand Manager Jennifer Khan said there will also be Zumba (exercising and dancing session), discussions on cancer and yoga and free distribution of beverages and lunch packs prepared by teachers and students of the Carnegie School of Home Economics. Students from the institution will also mount a tie-dye exhibition. The programme will also feature a jump rope exhibition by students and teachers of the Ministry of Education Allied Arts Unit. “The Wellness and Mini Health Fair is for the entire family,” Khan said.
Exercise and other equipment for the health fair will be provided by Courts Furniture Store. Other organizations expected to participate are the Rotary Club of Georgetown Central, Cancer Institute of Guyana, National Blood Bank, Guyana Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS, Georgetown Public Hospital, Mercy Hospital, the Zumba Group and Georgetown Brahma. The programme will run until 3pm.
