A man who police allegedly found hiding under his bed with a quantity of cocaine was yesterday refused bail when he appeared in court.
Nizam Osman, 27, a labourer, who resides at Cross Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to a charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
The police said that on April 13, on Cross Street the defendant had two grammes of cocaine in his possession.
Police Prosecutor Gonzales, who objected to bail, told the court that police went to the Cross Street home and conducted a search in an apartment where they found the defendant lying under a bed.
He was pulled out from his hiding place and a search conducted on his person revealed the alleged narcotics in his pocket, the prosecutor added.
Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, before whom the defendant appeared, upheld the prosecution’s objection and Osman was remanded to prison until April 30, for the commencement of trial. The matter was transferred to Court 5, of the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
