Kareem Lovell, a suspect in an armed robbery who police say they found with an unlicensed gun and ammunition, was yesterday sentenced to two years in jail.
Lovell, an electrician, was found guilty of unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition and in addition to the prison sentence he was also fined $100,000.
The charge against him stated that on October 21, 2014, he had a .380 pistol without being the holder of a valid firearm licence as well as eight rounds of .380 ammunition.
Lovell was arrested after the police received a report that he was involved in an armed robbery and they went to his 258 David Street, Kitty home, where the gun and ammunition were found.
At the conclusion of his trial yesterday, city magistrate Fabayo Azore told Lovell that a prima facie case was made out against him after all the evidence given was considered.
He was then sentenced to two years in jail on each charge but the sentences will run concurrently. He was also ordered to pay a fine of $50,000 on each charge.
