Two houses owned by the suspects in the Mount Sinai murder erupted in flames late Thursday night.
The fires reportedly started sometime around 11PM and while one house was completely razed, the second, located close to the land that was cleared by the deceased man and his relatives, was saved due to the quick response of the Guyana Fire Service.
The fires follow the fatal shooting that claimed the life of Patrick Boodie, 38, on Wednesday.
When Stabroek News visited the community yesterday, debris was all that remained from one house.
At the other house, a mattress and a piece of textile had burned, scorching the flooring and sections of the wall. Meanwhile, in the yard, it was observed that plants had been chopped off at the root.
According to residents of the community, when they saw flames emanating from the house, they alerted the fire service, which responded in a timely manner and put out the fire.
Residents claimed that since the night of the fatal incident, all three suspects went missing. Police are still trying to arrest Boodie’s killers. On Wednesday, around 5:20 PM, one of the suspects had complained to Boodie’s brother, Calvin Charles, 44, that the fire he had lit on the land was spreading to the neighbouring property.
“I push my head through the fence to see what part of the wood burn and he chucked me, so I chucked him back. Ah din know that another brother was at the back of me and this one lash me to my head,” Charles had recounted.
He then alerted his brother, Boodie, who left his home and went with the intention to make peace but the conflict escalated and he was fatally shot.
Boodie bled profusely at the scene before being rushed to the New Amsterdam public hospital, where he succumbed.
An autopsy performed on Boodie by forensic pathologist Dr Vivikanand Brijmohan gave the cause of his death as shock and haemorrhage due to multiple gunshot wounds. The deceased’s body had approximately ten wounds, seven from bullets and the other three from a sharp object. A third person, Jason Nicholas, 28, a mason and taxi driver who was in the vicinity at the time, was also injured in the shooting.
