Three friends were found guilty of an armed robbery and were each fined $75,000 at the conclusion of their trial in a Georgetown court yesterday.
If either Keon Simon, 19, of Chapel Street, Charlestown, Akeem Marshall, 21 of Albouys-town, or Lionel Khudu, 22, of Indepen-dence Boulevard, Georgetown, fails to pay the fine, he will have to serve a six-month-long prison sentence.
Magistrate Fabayo Azore, before whom the trial was conducted, informed that a prima facie case was made out against the defendants.
The charge against the men stated that on January 12, at La Penitence, Georgetown, being together and armed with a gun they robbed Anthony Powley of a quantity of valuables and cash, amounting to $165,000 in total. The all denied the charge during their arraignment and were remanded to prison.
According to the prosecution, Powley was in his apartment when he heard a strange noise coming from his yard. Upon making checks, he discovered the three men in his yard. Khudu allegedly placed a gun to Powley’s head, while the two others relieved him of his valuables.
The prosecutor indicated also that someone saw what was transpiring and informed police who were on patrol. When the officers arrived at Powley’s house and knocked on the door, Khudu reportedly opened the door, while the other two were seen in the house packing the stolen items.
They were arrested and charged and the items were recovered.
