TCL Guyana has donated a quantity of food stuff valued $110,000 to the food bank of the National AIDS Programme Secretariat (NAPS), which had issued an appeal to the private sector. In a press release, NAPS said this is the third time within the last month it has received a donation. Speaking on behalf of NAPS Programme Manager Dr Shanti Singh, Jennifer Ganesh welcomed the donation. She said Senior Social Workers/Nutritionist Somdatt Ramessar has been working assiduously to increase private sector support and to date has had about 41% of donations coming from that group annually. Over the last eight years, since the establishment of the food bank, more than 29,000 hampers have been distributed to eligible beneficiaries countrywide. “It is through these collaborations that the food Bank is able to address sustainability of the nutritional support to persons living and affected with HIV and those co-infected with tuberculosis,” the statement said. Meanwhile, TCL Guyana, subsidiary of TCL Group of Companies, pledged its continued support to the secretariat.
