The local theatre community has once again gone all out for students writing the English B examination at the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate level and is staging Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar at the National Cultural Centre at the end of the month.
Produced by GEMS Theatre Productions and directed by Derek Gomes, the play will debut on April 30 at 10 am. It is being staged in collaboration with the National School of Theatre Arts and Drama (NSTAD).
Some of the crème de la crème of local theatre have been cast, including Ajay Baksh, Lloyda Nicholas Garrett, Mark Luke-Edwards, Michael Ignatius, Sean Thompson, Nirmala Narine, Paul Budnah, Max Massiah, Kirk Jardine and Chris Gopaul. They have been joined by John Fraser, Luigi Ferreira, Gibran Azeez, Patrick Chanderban, Stephen Asif Mohamed, Scott Adams, Delon Sancho and students of the NSTAD, a release from GEMS said.
It added that approval has been granted by the Ministry of Education for schools to attend. The play continues on May 2 at 10 am and May 4 at 8 pm. Tickets for the 10 am shows are $500 each, while for the lone evening performance open to the general public, they will cost $2,500 (adults /reserved) and $1,000 for children below 16years (unreserved) All tickets are available at the National Cultural Centre, the release said.
