Among the fitness booths, bodybuilding and Ms. Bikini contests, a historic event occurred on the Novices Bodybuilding and Fitness stage last Saturday at the Theatre Guild.
The men’s physique category was contested to decide who would become the first ever Men’s Physique winner at that event. The tanning spray was on, board-shorts tied, and the stage set for the event which is now making waves in the fitness industry.
It was not an easy choice, but the judges awarded the Men’s Physique trophy to Bodymaxx’s Emmerson Campbell. Fitness Paradise’s Caerus Cipriani was second and Yannick Grimes (Bodymaxx) was third.
The Men’s physique category is meant to award those physiques that are shapely and defined without being too massive or dry. Among the group of eight hunks, Campbell brought the shape and stage presence the judges most wanted to see.
He was well-proportioned, well-muscled, not overly conditioned, and brought all the tools necessary to present a winning physique.
After the judging period, the stakes always seem a little higher. For their final decision, the judges called out Chaitram Nagessar in fourth, Grimes in third, Cipriani in second and gave Campbell the win.
Each guy demonstrated the aesthetic, classic lines everybody loves but the top four stood out clearly as the best under the bright lights. The future will be particularly interesting in this division, as the number of competitors is large and would be growing larger.
President of the GABBFF, Keavon Bess dubbed the show a success and stated that he envisions seeing many more Men’s Physique athletes on stage next year. This augurs well for the future and will certainly raise the bar for Fitness in Guyana.
Winning the Men’s Physique title is only going to get tougher.
