Two hospitalised after Melanie shooting

Two men are now hospitalised following a shooting at the Melanie Damishana Market Road, on the East Coast of Demerara, on Monday night.

Vendor Eon Goodluck, 24, also known as ‘Fish,’ was shot in his abdomen and Vendell Skeete, 29, was shot in the right hand, police said yesterday.

When Stabroek News visited Goodluck at the Georgetown Public Hospital, he said he was unaware that Skeete was also shot.

According to Goodluck’s girlfriend, Skeete was in the neighbourhood laughing with his friends when Goodluck was shot.

Meanwhile, Skeete’s cousin, Sonia (only name given), said she was told by her brother that it was Goodluck and a cousin of Skeete who confronted him while he was with a friend.

Earlier, she said, Skeete had approached Goodluck with a baseball bat and gave him an ultimatum—he was to pay the money he owed him by 5PM on Monday.

She said when the cousin exited the vehicle, he asked Skeete’s friend to move. The man failed to comply and the cousin fired a bullet in the air. This made him scamper. Afterwards, the cousin fired a bullet at Skeete and it hit him in the arm. Skeete then rushed to Goodluck, grabbed him and used him as a shield.

The cousin failed to stop and that was when Goodluck was hit in the abdomen.
