A man was shot dead execution-style last evening in a minibus in full view of several passengers at Agricola, East Bank Demerara.
Dead is Gladstone George, 32, of Lot 40 Brutus Street, Agricola.
An eyewitness told Stabroek News that he was standing on the main road just minutes after seven last night when he heard two gunshots. He said he then saw all the passengers rushing out of the packed bus to a nearby pharmacy and heard the cries of a child who appeared to have been close to the weapon.
George was later seen slumped on a seat and it appeared that he had been shot to his head. Police arrived at the scene quickly and he was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital in the said vehicle. From all indications the eyewitness said that it appeared to be not a robbery but rather an execution-style shooting.
A source told this newspaper that the man was seated in the back seat of the bus stuck in traffic as a result of a fire at a gas station at Eccles when someone on a bicycle rode up to the back window of the bus and shot him before escaping.
