A man was granted bail yesterday after he pleaded not guilty to unlawfully and maliciously wounding his 18-year-old girlfriend.
It was alleged that on April 20, the accused, Nigel Payne and Trevica Van de Cruz were at an outing on the Kingston seawall. Payne reportedly approached the virtual complainant and informed her that he was ready to go home.
However Van de Cruz stated that she wasn’t ready to leave. Payne, who was at the time drinking a beer, broke the glass bottle and cut Van de Cruz on the left side of her face, the court was told. The young women was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital and a report was made to the police.
The prosecution offered no objection to bail and it was granted in the sum of $100,000.
Payne, 31, a resident of D’Urban Street is expected to return to court on May 8 for trial.
