The Maritime Administration Depart-ment (Marad) recently distributed 192 life jackets for children in Region Two as part of its continuous safety campaign.
According to a press release, the lifejackets were distributed to four schools in the Pomeroon River: Martindale, Marlborough, Lilydale and Hackney primary schools.
Officers from the Department demonstrated to the teachers and students the proper way in which the jackets are to be worn and emphasised the importance of wearing a lifejacket whenever travelling in an open boat.
The head teachers were particularly grateful for the exercise.
Meanwhile, the team erected several safety posters at the Supenaam and Charity stellings.
Marad will continue its safety countrywide in an effort to make the public more safety conscious when travelling on the waterways.
