Gladstone George, the Agricola man who was gunned down on Wednesday night, had an attempt made on his life before.
This is according to an Agricola resident, who asked not to be named.
George, 32, was shot dead execution-style on Wednesday night in a minibus, in full view of several passengers at Agricola, East Bank Demerara.
Police said yesterday that George’s assailant approached the vehicle and discharged several rounds then escaped. George, who was hit in the head, was subsequently pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Hospital.
According to a resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, persons attempted to kill George a few months ago. The resident said after the shooting George went into hiding.
A relative of George told Stabroek News that he would not live at the same address for long periods; he was always on the move.
In February, Stabroek News reported that George was shot and robbed at Middle Street, McDoom by four gunmen. George had told Stabroek News that he pretended to be dead and this might’ve saved his life. “I played a dead game on them and I could hear one of them saying, ‘Check he for money… check he pants.’ But all the time I calling God to help me,” George had said.
An eyewitness told Stabroek News on Wednesday that he was standing on the main road when he heard two gunshots. He said he then saw all the passengers rushing out of a packed bus to a nearby pharmacy and heard the cries of a child who appeared to have been close to the weapon.
George was later seen slumped on a seat and it appeared that he had been shot to his head.
