Glendon Cadogan, the 83-year-old UK-based Guyanese who was shot multiple times by bandits on Tuesday, is currently in a stable condition at a private hospital.
When Stabroek News visited Cadogan, he said he did not want any further publicity. However, he told this publication that he was feeling weak and the hospital staff will assess him today and decide if he will be discharged.
His female companion at the time of the shooting, who was taken into custody after the attack, has been released, ‘A’ Division Commander Clifton Hicken said.
Cadogan, a retiree, was shot in his chest, abdomen and an arm in the ambush, which occurred at about 9:40AM outside the Springfield Street residence, where he planned to stay at Shirley Field-Ridley Square, Georgetown.
Based on eyewitness accounts, the bandits appeared to have planned the robbery and waited patiently for Cadogan’s arrival in a taxi at the residence.
An eyewitness had said that black and yellow cars were waiting in the narrow Springfield Street, and when Cadogan arrived the men pounced on him as he exited the vehicle, drew a gun on him and demanded his bag. The man resisted them and one of the bandits got irate and shot him several times.
