The Guyana Cricket Board’s (GCB) u-19 50 over defending champions, Demerara defeated Essequibo by 47 runs on the Duckworth-Lewis method in yesterday’s final round of the tournament played at the Enmore Community Centre Ground.
Demerara posted 111 for 8 in the revised 20 overs aside affair
after rain prevented play for most of the morning.
Essequibo spinner Akeine Adams 4-25 and Keanu Harry 4-33 enjoyed the lion’s share of the Demerara line up as they kept the hosts at a decent 111 for 8.
However, a revised target of 153 in 20 overs would be too much for Essequibo who were knocked down for 106 in 17 overs.
All-rounder Kemo Paul who was given two lives chipped in with 43 and Johnathan Fernandes aided with 29 but their knocks were in vain as Man-of-the-Match Sherfane Rutherford who took four catches, scored 14 and claimed 2-18, and along with spinners Tariq Dharamlall (2-23), Malcom Hubbard (2-31) and Travis Persaud (2-0), bowled their team into tomorrow’s final against the u-17 youths.
Earlier, Demerara were 35-0 from 10 overs when rain stopped play. Centurion Tevin Imlack (22), Vivian Albert (15), Rutherford (14), Mark Hamilton (12) and Persaud (11), were responsible for Demerara’s total.
Demerara will now seek to win their fourth straight match when they take on the u-17 XI in tomorrow’s final, set for the Everest Cricket Club Ground.
