APNU+AFC Coalition prime ministerial candidate Moses Nagamooto told an enthusiastic crowd at a rally at the Vreed-en-Hoop Stelling, West Coast Demerara on Friday that the May 11 “election is about saving Guyana…”
Vowing that a coalition government would increase old age pensions and salaries, he said “if we go in there and find money in the Treasury, the first people we will think about will be our senior citizens.”
Nagamootoo also promised, “if they stop the thieving we could pay public servants across the board increase.” This includes nurses, teachers and police officers who must not live on starvation wages and not survive on a dog’s meal anymore, he added.
He said that for this to happen the APNU+AFC have to first take office and rescue the Treasury that the government has “treated as its personal property.
“We have to stop the corruption… by firstly making sure that we obey the constitution of Guyana and we establish what we call a public procurement commission… so that all contracts must be fair” and free of discrimination.
He said too that the coalition wants a government that is as “clean as a whistle and we therefore want to establish a code of conduct for ministers, not only to stop them from cussing down but to stop them from thieving.”
According to Nagamootoo, “We are the corruption capital of the world as we are the suicide country of the world… twenty-five per cent of the people are unemployed.”
He also said that an integrity commission would be put in place so that the ministers and government officials must declare their assets.
Like other speakers before him, Nagamootoo urged supporters to place their X next to the “palm and key” and their party would come out victorious on May 11.
The huge gathering was entertained by performers, including the Mighty Rebel and a Tassa/African drumming combination group.
