The Civil Defence Commission of the Guyana Defence Force has opened an alternating emergency centre to better cope with national disasters.
Head of the Presidential Secretariat and National Disaster Coordinator Dr Roger Luncheon informed at a press conference that the new facility, located at the army’s Camp Stephenson Base at Timehri would be used alternately with the current CDC location at Camp Ayangana, Georgetown.
Luncheon said that setting up of the other CDC base formed part of bilateral engagements with its developmental partner, the United States administration, which is responsible for the Southern Command. The latter, he pointed out, financed both its infrastructure and equipping the facility.
