Sections of the seawall are reeking because of a noticeable increase in seaweed and other water creatures that have washed ashore.
According to Romeo Defreitas, a turtle conservationist, the seaweed had been noticed on the seashore last year and it has now come back. Defreitas said the seaweed is scattered all across the seacoast.
Defreitas described the odour as “rank.” He said the odour might linger for a while since there was a large amount of the seaweed on parts of the seawalls. Defreitas said the odour is at its worst when the sun bakes the sea debris.
While he was not certain as to what might’ve caused the seaweed to wash ashore, he said it might be because of the current flow.
