Plaisance Guardians got their Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) ‘King of the Hard Court’ Championship off to the perfect start, defeating Eagles 79-56 in their Open Divisional showdown on Friday at the Burnham Court.
Sharp-shooter Nikkoloi Smith led the East Coast of Demerara outfit with a game high 29 points. He was assisted by the combination of Mark Richards and Kwame Fox who netted 18 and 17 points correspondingly.
On the other side, Mark Wills led the losers with 15 points while Courtney Taylor chipped in with 14 points. In the earlier u-23 section of the tournament, Eagles defeated Melanie Patriots by a 69-54 score line.
Rawlston Richardson was the top score for the winners with joint game high 16 points while the duo of Darrel Williams and Evan Khan contributed 14 points each. Scoring 16 points in the loss was Shacquel Eversley.
The second matchup of the section witnessed Plaisance Guardians defeating Buxton via a walkover. The action is slated to continue today at the same venue with three fixtures.
In the opening matchup at 17:00hrs, TGH Pacesetters will faceoff with Buxton in a u-23 matchup while Colts will lock horns with Knights at 19:00hrs in the Open Section. The final matchup of the night at 21:00hrs will pit Ravens against Sonics in an Open divisional fixture.
