PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC-Trinidad and Tobago spinner Samuel Badree says he is eager to showcase his skills to young Australian spinners during a training camp there next month.
Badree, the world’s leading T20 spinner, has been enlisted by Cricket Australia (CA) to work with the country’s best young spinners.
The spin camp, part of CA’s pathway programme to develop young talent, runs from May 11 to 15 in Brisbane.
“I am looking forward to being involved in this program to share my experiences and philosophies with the young spinners of Australia and hopefully impart something to them that would make them better players,” said Badree.
“It’s my first visit to Australia as well and I look forward to the experience”.
Badree, a specialist T20 bowler, is the first West Indian that the Australians have employed.
He will work alongside Australia’s head spin coach, John Davidson, and with 24 of Australia’s young spin bowlers, including Cameron Boyce, just as Australia’s Shane Warne and Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitheran have been doing for the past two seasons.
“My greatest success has been in the shorter versions of the game so I hope to impart knowledge based on that, the importance of control when bowling, adapting to different conditions and taking wickets through guile is crucial,” said Badree, who has taken 31 wickets in 22 T20 internationals with a best of 4 for 15.
