A twenty-three-year-old man was granted $50,000 bail on Friday after he was accused of stealing five cellular phones from his employer.
It is alleged between March 13 and April 18 at Stabroek Market, Malcolm Harry, a technician of Stewartville, stole five cellphones valued $172,000 belonging to Kwame Sinclair.
The unrepresented defendant pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
According to the prosecution, the defendant was employed by Sinclair, who had observed phones missing from his store and decided to set up a camera. Sometime after doing so, Sinclair reviewed the footage which clearly showed Harry removing the phones. Further investigations were carried out and a search on the defendant was conducted during which two of the phones were discovered.
The prosecution had no objection to bail.
The matter is adjourned to June 1.
