A miner who denied that he hid a gun along with ammunition under a mattress which police allegedly unearthed in his room was remanded to prison after he pleaded not guilty in a Georgetown court yesterday.
Rickford Atwell Shepard, 27, of Now or Never, Mahaicony, was accused by the police of having in his possession a 9mm pistol along with two live matching rounds on April 28, at Aranka Landing.
The Georgetown Magistrates’ Court 1, heard from Prosecutor Gonzales that the police received information which led them to conduct a search in a shop owned by the defendant which he operates in the interior.
The prosecutor alleged that the gun and ammunition were found hidden under a mattress in Shepard’s room.
Gonzales further objected to bail citing the seriousness of the offence.
Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry upheld the prosecution’s objection and Shepard was remanded to prison until May 15, when the matter will be called again at the Kamarang Magistrate’s Court.
