The accused in the gun-point robbery of two men was yesterday remanded to prison after answering to the charge in a city court.
Kevin Mingo, 23, pleaded not guilty to the charge, which states that on April 23, while being armed with a gun, he robbed Patrick Dundas and Anfernee Cantzlaar of four gold chains, valued $185,000 altogether. According to Prosecutor Bharat Mangru, Dundas and Cantzlaar had stopped to purchase cigarettes at a James Street, Albouystown shop and were proceeding back to their vehicle when Mingo confronted them and took their chains away.
It was further related that Mingo attempted to escape on foot but he was pursued and subsequently apprehended.
Mangru made objections to bail on the grounds of the seriousness and prevalence of the offence as well as the penalty it attracts.
Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry therefore ordered Mingo to be remanded to prison until May 19th, when the next hearing for the case is set.
