Three Cuban nationals were fined $100,000 each yesterday after they admitted to forging immigration stamps in their passports.
Amanys Oliva Pompa, Yenier Pupo Torres and Osandi Perez Benites all pleaded guilty to the charges when they appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry in a city court.
The charge against them stated that on April 24th, 2015, they forged the immigration service arrival stamps on their respective United States passports.
The three men were represented by attorney Paul Fung-A-Fat, who asked for the men to pay a fine rather than be incarcerated. He said that they already had a taste of what the result would be if they were to be sent back to prison.
As a result, the Chief Magistrate fined the men $100,000 each with an alternative of six months in jail if they are unable to pay the fine.
