Gladstone George, who was shot dead in a minibus last week, has been linked to the heist in which $42M was stolen during a transfer to the Bourda Post Office last month.
Police, in a statement issued yesterday, said George, 32, of Agricola, was identified as a suspect in the armed attack, during which a policeman and a postal worker were abducted.
Police did not say how they managed to link George to the robbery, for which three men have already been charged. Stravo Evans, Simeon Williams, and Oliver Franklin have all pleaded not guilty to charges including robbery, abduction and wrongful imprisonment. They have all been remanded to prison until their next court hearing on May 29th.
George was fatally shot while seated with other passengers in a minibus on the Agricola Public Road on April 22nd.
An eyewitness told Stabroek News that he was standing on the main road when he heard two gunshots and subsequently saw passengers rushing out of a bus. George was later seen slumped in his seat with a gunshot wound to his head.
In February, there had been an attempt on his life. George had said then that he was shot and robbed at Middle Street, McDoom by four gunmen. George said he resorted to playing dead after the attack until the men left.
