Dear Editor,
As a woman, I still do feel particularly insulted by the vile and callous behaviour of Mr. Bheri Ramsaran, Minister of Health against the women of Guyana. It was disgraceful and remains an inerasable blot on the gender slate in our society.
Frankly, I am very worried about the future and rights of women under a PPP/C government. Imagine what would have happened had Mr. Ramsaran remained Minister of Health. And to think that, he was the person, who was responsible for our nurses and other female health care professionals.
However, yesterday, it was reported that, the President of Guyana, Mr. Donald Ramotar fired Mr. Ramsaran from his ministerial post. To this I say, too little, too late.
It is common knowledge that the pattern of this PPP government has been to reward miscreants, who indulge in lawless, indecent and unethical behaviour.
For example, after former Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Mr. Kellawan Lall hit a poor citizen with his vehicle and drove away (the citizen was left partially disabled); used his gun in a reckless manner (fired shots in a public place), and uttered his desire to see a health crisis in Georgetown, which, according to his calculation would have removed the duly elected Mayor and City Councillors, the government promoted him to the post of Ambassador to Brazil. We are not sure why he has returned; he remains secluded behind the high and shadowy walls of the Office of the President.
Citizens will recall a similar incident with former Minister of Home Affairs, Mr. Ronald Gajraj when he was accused of connections to the deadly phantom squad. He was promoted to the post of Guyana’s High Commissioner to India.
Also, the PPP government is yet to deal with the country’s Attorney General Mr. Anil Nandlall. Mr. Nandlall was heard in a telephone conversation with a reporter from Kaieteur News; inter alia, issuing threats and soliciting information about a young female reporter. He wanted her to grant sexual favours for his uncle. The Attorney General disrespected the young reporter at that news agency. He remains secure at his post as Attorney General and on the PPP/C list of candidates.
It is very strange that the PPP/C was willing to release Mr. Ramsaran but continues to stubbornly resist calls to dismiss Mr. Nandlall. To date, those threats remain unaddressed by the government.
One time Minister of Health, Dr. Leslie Ramsammy was reportedly implicated in the purchase of high- tech spy equipment, used by Roger Khan and his gang during the dark and terrible days of the phantom squad and the gruesome killing of our young men. Instead of a full and proper investigation, he was reassigned, by the government, to the post of Minister of Agriculture.
So, the entire PPP is unethical and unfit to lead this great nation of ours. Let us change this on May 11, 2015. Go out and vote in your numbers and dismiss the PPP/C from office. We cannot take chances with the future of our children and their children. We must act now.
Call your relatives and friends and urge them to put an end to this cycle of violence, hate, bitterness, greed, corruption, nepotism and crime.
Yours faithfully,
Patricia Chase-Green
Deputy Mayor of
Georgetown
