Over two months after a reportedly speeding driver hit down nine-year-old Holly Ann Archer on the Mahaicony Public Road leaving her incapacitated and manic, he is yet to appear in court.
The driver who is a member of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) was released on $50,000 station bail while the investigation into the accident continues.
Speaking with Stabroek News, Traffic Officer Inspector G Mingo informed that the file is with the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) awaiting advice.
Meanwhile, the child’s leg from which a cast was recently removed, now appears twisted. A relative said Holly would normally receive therapy at the Mahaicony Hospital and they were advised by the therapist to seek the advice of a bone specialist at a private medical institution as regards her leg.
“They might have to break the leg and fix it back,” said an aunt, who explained that after the child was rushed to the hospital following the accident in February, the doctors had encased the leg in a Plaster of Paris cast without verifying the extent of the fracture.
The injury is now healed but the leg appears to be twisted below the knee.
Meanwhile, the child’s mother, who is a single parent, has returned to her job in the interior as a cook. The financial strain to maintain her family singlehandedly became overwhelming so she had no choice but to leave her child. Holly’s grandmother is attending to her in the absence of her mother.
Sometime after 3 pm on February 6, Holly was hit by a car, which was allegedly speeding, just after she disembarked a minibus and had started walking to her Fellowship, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara home.
The Novar Primary School child was rushed to the Mahaicony Hospital before she was transferred to the Georgetown Hospital where she was admitted in an unconscious state.
Meanwhile, an Army Major who was driving a car which reportedly hit a motorcyclist on the Mahaicony Public Road is also yet to be charged.
Ravindra Bagenot was knocked from his motorcycle in the vicinity of Letter T, Mahaicony on March 1. He succumbed a few days after the accident.
Although he had promised relatives of Bagenot to assist with offsetting the funeral expense, they said that they promise was never kept.
Mingo, told Stabroek News yesterday that the police are still awaiting advice from the DPP as regards that matter.
