Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) Ladies suffered mixed fortunes on day three of their inaugural season in the Trinidad and Tobago Outdoor Women’s hockey league defeating Notre Dame but losing to Checkers on Sunday in the twin-island republic.
In their opening match of the day against Notre Dame Hockey Club at 11:30am, the Guyanese emerged victorious by a 3-2 score line. Trinidad and Tobago international Blair Wynne gave Notre Dame the early lead with a third minute strike.
However, GCC would equalise two minutes later as Shebiki Baptiste netted following a pass from captain Sonia Jardine.
Baptiste would then play provider to GCC’s go-ahead goal in the final minute of the first quarter following a two-on-one situation with the opposing custodian which was finished off by the supporting Jardine.
The home side would then equalise the matchup in the as Wynne netted her second with a 17th minute conversion. Nonetheless, GCC would clinch the hard-fought result as Kerensa Fernandes scored.
In their second match later in the day, the Guyanese unit went down to Checkers Hockey Club by a 1-0 score line. Trinidad and Tobago national midfielder Cristina Abreu settled the outcome as she etched her name on the scorer’s sheet eighth minutes before the fixture’s end.
The team returned home on Sunday evening and will now begin preparation for their second trip to the twin-island republic to continue their 12 game season on May 16.
