Lance Walters, who was allegedly found with cocaine, walked out of a city court a free man yesterday after the charge against him was dismissed.
Walters of 84 Fifth Street, Subryanville was remanded to prison on March 6 when
he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court 1 and pleaded not guilty to the charge, which stated that he had 8 grammes of cocaine in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.
The police case had stated that on March 4 at 8.30 pm, police went to Walters, based on information they had received and questioned him. He then reached into his pocket, withdrew a bag with a white substance and threw it to the ground some two feet away from him. He was arrested and taken to the Brickdam Police Station, where the substance that was retrieved was identified as cocaine.
When the case was called in court yesterday, no police witness was present and the prosecutor was called upon to close the case although he begged for ten minutes to have them present. The matter was subsequently dismissed due to insufficient evidence.
Walters was being tried before Magistrate Judy Latchman and was represented by Attorney Peter Hugh. The Prosecutor was Kerry Bostwick.
