Veteran squash coach and long serving junior national tactician Carl Ince said the recent training clinic in Trinidad and Tobago was well organized and is part of the nation’s push towards the development of local coaches.
The Level One Coaching course which was hosted by the Trinidad and Tobago Squash Association (TTSA), featured 11 participants within the fraternity.
It was staged at the Cascadia Squash Courts in St. Ann’s from April 9th-11th. Ince, who masterminded the rise of Guyanese squash both locally and abroad, earned all his accreditation in England inclusive of the level one, two, three and Elite Status Coaching Certification.
While he was only allowed to certify coaches within Guyana, the TTSA contacted England Squash and asked if the long standing Guyanese youth coach can be allowed to lend his services to the twin island republic.
England Squash quickly sanctioned the request and as such, the veteran squash guru was allowed to impart his knowledge in Trinidad via the TTSA.
In an invited comment with Stabroek Sports, Ince, who has secured 10 consecutive junior titles for Guyana at the helm of the programme, said it was a great experience and one of the best courses he has ever been involved with.
He noted that the TTSA is now moving in the direction of developing their local coaches, noting that previously they had overseas coaches contracted for a limited period of time.
Ince said under that model, the development between coach and players does not occur due to the limited time period, declaring that that courses such as the one he instructed is laying the foundation and structure for the country’s long-term development within the sport.
Questioned about the possibility of other Caribbean nations requesting his services, Ince said:”If England Squash asks me to go and teach in the other countries, I have too.”
