The Privatisation Unit and government holding company, NICIL today flayed a statement from opposition alliance APNU+AFC which said that “credible information suggest that there is an unusual amount of shredding of documents which is (taking) place at the Privitisation Unit located in Kingston”.
The NICIL statement follows:
It has come to NICIL’s attention that the APNU + AFC Coalition has issued a statement purporting that “there is an unusual amount of shredding of documents which is taken place at the Privatisation Unit” suggesting that NICIL/PU is engaging in a sinister plot to cover up or illegally destroy public documents and files prior to an election.
The Management of NICIL/PU categorically denies there is any activity, shredding or otherwise, carried on at NICIL/PU that is intended to or being done to destroy any of its public documents, files or records. APNU + AFC’s suggestion to the contrary is malicious, mischievous and absolutely false! Upon reading this nonsense from APNU + AFC, the management of NICIL has called in the Auditor General’s office to verify management’s position and to interview staff to confirm that absolutely no public documents, records and files are or have been destroyed.
The APNU+AFC statement
It has come to the attention of the APNU+AFC Coalition that efforts are afoot in various ministries and government offices to destroy documents. The Coalition has been advised that this process has commenced in earnest and that documents, at this stage, are being mainly destroyed by shredding.
Credible information suggest that there is an unusual amount of shredding of documents which is (taking) place at the Privatisation Unit located in Kingston.
APNU+AFC calls on the Guyana Police Force to immediately investigate these reports and safeguard the property of the state and people of Guyana.
APNU+AFC calls on all public servants to remain firm and resist any attempt to bully them in involving in the illegal destroying of public records and files. APNU+AFC warns that persons involved in this nefarious activity will be prosecuted after the May 11th elections.
