Nearly two months have passed and police are yet to make an arrest for the murder of Dwayne Kennedy, who was gunned down at the Golden Grove market tarmac, while the victim’s mother says the suspect has been seen liming in neighbouring villages.
Kennedy, 28, of Lot 40 Nabaclis, East Coast Demerara, died at the Georgetown Public Hospital around 5 am on March 14, just about five hours after he was riddled with bullets. At the time, he had been attending an event called the ‘Friday Night Swing’ at the market tarmac.
Two months later, Kennedy’s mother Cheryl Berkshire is still trying to come to grips with his death. “I can’t get over the way he was killed. I can’t get over that his killer is walking free and people are seeing him everywhere,” she told Stabroek News yesterday.
Police had issued a wanted bulletin for 29-year-old Rolston Morrison in connection with Kennedy’s death.
Berkshire stated that villagers have claimed that they had seen Morrison “liming” in neighbouring villages. Yet, whenever she visited the police station handling the case, she would almost always get turned away.
“Every time I go they would tell me to come back, that they haven’t found any information. But people are seeing this boy on the road. The police need to do better,” she stated.
Despite her experience, she has not lost faith. “Even though they keep pushing me around, I will trust in them to do their jobs,” she added.
Berkshire had stated that Kennedy’s death stemmed from an old grievance between him and the wanted man.
She stated that Kennedy’s alleged killer had attacked him two years ago with a gun.
“They beat him with gun and he fainted and they wait till he wake up and beat him again. We reported it but nothing came out of the story,” she said.
Berkshire also stated that the alleged perpetrator use to pass their house and yell that he would kill her son.
