Johnathan Foo struck a century in vain as Berbice A lost to Berbice B
by 57 runs on Friday in the first of two trial matches organised by the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) ahead of the upcoming Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) senior Inter-County competition.
The national hard-hitting right-hander, began the new senior season with a belligerent 119 from 110 balls with 11 fours and a six as his team reached 220-7 when the overs ended chasing 276.
Keyron Fraser 2-20, Joemal LaFleur, who earlier scored 96 for the B team, 2-25, Pramanand Ramdan, 1-29 and Raun Johnson, 1-45 were the main wicket takers.
Batting first Berbice B were propelled to their target by LaFleur, who continues to make a strong case for a possible selection, striking a 98-ball 96 with nine fours. He found support came from David Latchaya who scored 46, Kevin Ramdeen 38 with four fours and Under-19 player Balchand Baldeo 35.
Lafleur and Baldeo added 109 after Berbice A bowlers, led by Niall Smith with 3-50, Kevin Jawahir 2-30 and Gudakesh Motie-Kanhai 1-42, tried to contain their opponents.
During the chase Berbice A lost opener Shimron Hetymer (17), Kandasammy Surujnarine (04), Joshua Ramsammy 0, and Ashkay Homraj 18.
Foo and Moti (13) consolidated the innings with the former reaching his century but the two failed to take their team over the line when the innings ended.
Meanwhile, the second proposed day of trials of the Demerara Cricket Board resulted in a false start after Only approximately 17 players turned up at the Wales Community ground.
According to reports some of the players invited to participate in the trials are out of the country. TO compound matters the pitch was deemed unplayable after huge parts were waterlogged. It is expected that the trials will now be pushed to sometime next week ahead of the May 16 start of the Inter-County tournament.
